Last October when I visited New York, I got to visit the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. I’ve been anticipating this visit for quite some time, and after visiting it, I was so determined to share my experience.
I still remember vividly walking out of
my Social Studies class and seeing the breaking news on TV on September 11, 2001. I’ve never visited the twin towers, but what stood in front of me at that moment was heartbreaking. Thousands of names are etched along the walls that line the memorial pool. There were a few white roses placed on the victims names in commemoration of their birthday. The area was packed with people, but the atmosphere was serene and all you could hear were the rushing water from the endless waterfalls.

I’m usually not a huge fan of museums, but I really wanted to pay this museum a visit. Definitely money well spent! I didn’t take much pictures once I got in because I was too occupied trying to watch every single clip and read every word on display. They did an amazing job putting this museum together, It felt like I’ve taken a step back into the past and got to relive that whole day again. They take you through the events of the 9/11 attack using multimedia displays and a collection of actual artefacts. The most touching part of the museum is the “Wall of Faces” memorial exhibition, where portrait photographs of the victims are lined up along the walls. The interactive touch screen table located nearby also allows you to listen to stories being told about each individual that has passed away in this tragic event.

Personally, I believe 9/11 was an inside job rather than a terrorist attack, so I wasn’t able to agree with every story that was being told at the museum. But I am definitely glad I went and paid my respect to the men, women, and children that was sacrificed in this event. I spent 3-4 hours at this museum and I still felt like I had to rush through a lot of what it had to offer. This is a must-see/must-do when you are in New York, and I would recommend at least 5-6 hours to get through it all.
