Night Wolf - $50
Night Wolf – $50

I’ve only tried one item on their menu, but it was enough to make me want to go back again. There is definitely a lot going on in this little cup called the Night Wolf, one of the best sellers at Oddies Foodies. Because eating gelato on its own is too mainstream, Oddies decides to top it off with a batch of freshly made brownie chocolate chip eggettes. Prepared crispy on the outside and tender inside, there was a generous amount of chocolate chips – not overly sweet but enough so you could taste it with every bite.

The Italian low fat soft gelato served with 66% dark chocolate was a bit heavy when eaten alone.  Dipping the eggettes in the gelato however, did help balance out the sweetness. As we dig deeper, we start to come across a mixture of taste and texture: caramelised banana ice cream, passion fruit panna cotta, and crunchy flakes.  Not exactly the combo I had in mind, but for some reason the flavours mixed well and the whole thing works!  I’m usually not a fan of banana flavoured things, however, the ice cream tasted like the real thing and I’m pretty sure I came across an actual piece of banana as well.  The passion fruit panna cotta was one of the hidden gems in this cup. Finishing off with something so strongly acidic, like passion fruit, helps clean out that sweet aftertaste in your mouth.

For $50, I think I got my money’s worth. The portions were reasonable and maybe even too much for one person to enjoy on their own.  Located in Wan Chai, Oddies Foodies offers a variety of fusion eggettes, including kimchi, ham & cheese, and vanilla rice pudding, just to name a few. They are also constantly coming up with creative/odd seasonal ice cream theme desserts so I’m excited to see what they will have in store next!
