Yup, French again.
Went home for Christmas and the girls brought me to a new brunch spot in town Suzette bistro. The new addition to Calgary’s Mission neighbourhood specialises in authentic dishes inspired from Brittany, the Northern region of France.
They are famous for their selection of galettes (savoury, gluten-free, buckwheat crepes) and sweet dessert crepes. The fillings for galettes all sounded delicious, but in the end I chose the Fruits de mer, which contained seared scallop, a selection of seafood, and smoked salmon in veloute sauce.
The seared scallop was a bit over cooked and on the dry side. But the sauce was delicious and contained a good portion of squid and shrimp. The spotlight of the dish though, was definitely the smoked salmon. The salmon really helped boost the dish to the next level by giving it more texture and substance when you eat it along with the crepe.
The dish was light and refreshing, but I thought the prices were slightly marked up considering how it wasn’t really filling. The service was also lacking as it took awhile to get our servers attention to take our order.
The non-alcoholic drink selection was limited and not up to par compared to the rest of the menu. I ordered a latte but was quite disappointed in the texture of the milk as it was too foamy and tasted like a cappuccino.

The seating area is quite packed so I would advise booking a table in advance. But nonetheless, the atmosphere was perfect for brunch and I would definitely like to come back to try their dessert crepes.
